  1. Before visa: prepare proof of funds using bank statements, bank certificate, scholarship documents or sponsor documents.
  2. Before arrival: keep an international card and consider a digital account for temporary card payments.
  3. First week: secure proof of address. This can be a rental contract, utility bill, residence certificate, host attestation or sometimes the international office address if you do not yet have accommodation.
  4. Open a bank account at a traditional bank near campus. Ask the international office if they have student partnerships with BNP Paribas, Societe Generale, Credit Agricole, LCL, CIC, Caisse d Epargne, Banque Populaire or La Banque Postale.
  5. Once opened, download the RIB from the app or branch. Use it for CAF, rent, phone contracts, health insurance and university reimbursements.
  6. If branch appointments are slow, use Nickel, Revolut, Wise or another digital solution as a temporary bridge, but still open a full French account if you need CAF, salary or long-term residence tasks.

  2. Before travel: arrange international card and temporary accommodation documents.
  3. Week 1 in France: obtain proof of address and enrolment certificate.
  4. Weeks 1 to 2: book or attend bank appointment, open account and request card.
  5. Weeks 2 to 4: provide RIB to CAF, landlord, university and employer if applicable.
  6. After first salary or scholarship: keep statements for residence renewal.
