About Jisr

Building bridges to education, opportunity, and intercultural understanding

Jisr is a multilingual education platform helping students from the Middle East and North Africa navigate opportunities to study, learn, and grow internationally.

The word Jisr means "bridge" in Arabic. It reflects our purpose: to bridge the distance between talented young people and the educational opportunities that can transform their lives.

For many students, the greatest obstacle is not a lack of ambition or ability. It is the lack of accessible, reliable, and understandable information. Scholarship requirements may be difficult to interpret. Admission and visa procedures vary from one country to another. Important guidance is often scattered across different websites, available only in unfamiliar languages, or written without considering the realities faced by students from the region.

Jisr was created to help close that gap.

We bring together practical information on scholarships, university admissions, visas, housing, financial preparation, and student life so that young people can make informed decisions and approach international education with greater confidence.

Our mission

Our mission is to make international education more accessible, understandable, and inclusive for students from the Middle East and North Africa.

We support students by translating complex procedures into clear steps, connecting them with credible opportunities, and helping them understand not only how to submit an application, but also how to prepare for the academic, cultural, and personal journey that follows.

Our work is guided by the belief that access to education should not depend on a student's language, social background, location, or familiarity with international systems.

Our vision

We envision a future in which every young person can explore educational opportunities beyond borders with accurate information, confidence, and a sense of belonging.

For Jisr, studying abroad is not simply about obtaining a degree. It is an opportunity to encounter different perspectives, build relationships across cultures, challenge stereotypes, and bring knowledge and experience back to one's community.

International education can help young people become more open, empathetic, and capable of working across differences. By supporting educational mobility, Jisr contributes to a generation of students and emerging leaders who can connect communities, encourage dialogue, and develop shared responses to common challenges.

Why Jisr exists

Students across the region frequently encounter barriers that are rarely addressed by conventional university or scholarship websites.

They may struggle to determine which opportunities are open to their nationality, whether their qualifications are recognised, how much studying abroad will actually cost, which documents must be translated or legalised, or how early they should begin preparing.

Language can create another barrier. Information may be available in English or the language of the destination country, but not in the language students use to discuss important decisions with their families and communities.

Jisr responds by providing guidance in English, Arabic, French, and Kurdish, with a focus on the questions and circumstances that are particularly relevant to students from the Middle East and North Africa.

What we do

Make opportunities easier to understand

We explain scholarships, admissions processes, visa requirements, and study destinations in clear and accessible language.

Our guidance is designed to help students understand:

Help students compare their options

Choosing a country, university, or scholarship can be overwhelming.

Jisr helps students compare opportunities according to factors such as eligibility, tuition fees, available funding, living costs, language requirements, visa procedures, academic quality, and post-study possibilities.

Support informed and independent decisions

Our purpose is not to push students toward a particular university, country, or programme.

We provide information and practical guidance so that each student can make a decision based on their own goals, circumstances, interests, and values.

Prepare students for the full journey

A successful international education journey extends beyond receiving an admission letter.

Students must also prepare for visa procedures, accommodation, budgeting, travel, cultural adjustment, communication, and life in a new community.

Jisr supports students from the early exploration stage through preparation for arrival and adaptation to their new academic environment.

Education as a bridge between cultures

Jisr is built around the principle that meaningful international education requires intercultural understanding.

Students who cross borders enter communities with different languages, histories, values, and ways of life. Thriving in these environments requires curiosity, empathy, respect, and the ability to communicate across differences.

Through our content and guidance, we encourage students to approach international education as a reciprocal experience.

Students are not only travelling to receive knowledge. They also bring their own cultures, languages, experiences, and perspectives into classrooms and communities.

This exchange can challenge prejudice, create lasting relationships, and strengthen understanding between societies.

Jisr therefore seeks to prepare students not only to become successful applicants, but also to become thoughtful participants in diverse academic and social environments.

Technology with a human purpose

Digital tools and artificial intelligence are changing how students discover opportunities, prepare applications, and communicate across languages.

Jisr believes these technologies can make education more accessible. They can help organise complex information, support multilingual communication, personalise guidance, and connect students with opportunities that might otherwise remain invisible to them.

However, technology must be used responsibly.

Automated systems can reproduce bias, exclude underrepresented communities, oversimplify individual circumstances, or circulate inaccurate information.

For this reason, Jisr places human judgment, transparency, inclusion, and responsibility at the centre of its approach.

We encourage students to use artificial intelligence as a supporting tool rather than a substitute for their own voice.

AI can help structure ideas, clarify language, research opportunities, or identify areas for improvement. However, applications must remain authentic and reflect the applicant's real experiences, motivations, values, and aspirations.

Technology should strengthen human connection, not replace it.

Our principles

Accessibility

Educational information should be understandable and available to students across languages, countries, and social backgrounds.

Accuracy

We prioritise official sources and encourage students to verify requirements with the responsible university, scholarship provider, embassy, or government authority.

Inclusion

We recognise that students have different identities, financial circumstances, educational histories, and levels of access to technology. Our guidance seeks to reflect that diversity.

Independence

Jisr supports students in making informed choices. We do not guarantee admission, scholarship selection, or visa approval.

Intercultural respect

We promote openness, empathy, dialogue, and respect for the cultures and communities students encounter throughout their journeys.

Authenticity

A strong application should communicate the student's genuine story. We encourage applicants to present their experiences honestly and take ownership of everything they submit.

Community

We believe students who receive opportunities can help create opportunities for others by sharing knowledge, experience, and encouragement.

Our story

Jisr was created by a group of students from the Middle East and North Africa who received scholarships and had the opportunity to study in different countries and academic systems.

Through these experiences, we gained access to education, international communities, new perspectives, and opportunities that changed the direction of our lives.

We learned in multicultural classrooms, worked alongside people from different backgrounds, adapted to unfamiliar societies, and built bridges across languages, cultures, and borders.

At the same time, we experienced the difficulties that many students from the region face when trying to access these opportunities.

We encountered confusing scholarship requirements, complicated admissions procedures, visa challenges, language barriers, financial uncertainty, and limited access to reliable guidance.

We also recognised that many talented students never apply because they do not know where to begin, believe they are not qualified, or cannot find information that reflects their circumstances.

Jisr grew from our desire to change that.

We want other students to experience the same opportunities to learn, travel, grow, build relationships, and discover their potential.

By sharing what we have learned and making information more accessible, we hope to help others cross the same bridges and eventually build new bridges for the students who follow them.

Jisr is therefore more than an information platform. It is a community built on shared experience, mutual support, and the belief that access to education can create lasting personal and social change.

Who we serve

Jisr primarily supports students and emerging professionals from the Middle East and North Africa who are exploring opportunities in Europe, Asia, and other international destinations.

Our resources are particularly relevant to:

More than an application

An application can open the door to a university, but education can open the door to something much larger.

It can enable a young person to meet people they might never otherwise encounter, understand unfamiliar perspectives, develop solutions with people from different backgrounds, and build relationships that extend beyond borders.

Every student who crosses that bridge has the potential to become a bridge for others.

That is the future Jisr is working toward: a connected community of informed, confident, and socially responsible young people who use education to create opportunities, strengthen understanding, and contribute positively to their communities.
