JASSO Scholarship
JASSO scholarships support privately financed international students in Japan. JASSO states that applicants must be enrolled as regular students in eligible Japanese institutions or preparatory courses.
Required documents
- University nomination or application form.
- Passport.
- Residence card, if already in Japan.
- Student status proof.
- Academic transcripts.
- Enrolment certificate.
- Bank account information.
- Language proof, if required.
- Financial need documents, if required.
- Statement of purpose, if required by university.
Eligible nationalities
- International students studying in Japan.
- Privately financed students.
- Students enrolled in eligible Japanese institutions.
- Exchange students may be eligible under separate JASSO exchange support.
- Students receiving other large scholarships may be excluded.
How to apply
- Usually apply through the Japanese university.
- Ask the university international office after admission.
- Some JASSO support is awarded through university nomination.
- Submit documents by the university's internal deadline.
- Wait for university and JASSO confirmation.
